About This Site

A name, an arrest date, and a booking photograph can belong to different official records in Tompkins County. This private guide explains where to begin with the Sheriff’s releases, county records process, courts, and state custody lookup. It does not publish or collect mugshot galleries.

Why Tompkins Records Need Context

New York public-record access does not place every arrest record in one public database. The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office creates and maintains county booking material, but the official sources reviewed do not provide a searchable current-custody name-and-photo roster. The Sheriff’s dated recent-arrest releases and Activity Logs serve different purposes, and neither is a complete roster.

For a sentenced state prisoner, the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision has the relevant inmate-lookup path. Court records help explain what happened after an arrest, while a focused county FOIL request may be the right way to ask for a particular record. This guide brings those official paths together so a reader can choose the record that actually fits the question. It does not host booking photographs or other records.

What This Guide Covers

The site is a wayfinding resource for the county’s existing public channels, not a replacement for them.

  • The home guide explains official Sheriff releases, Activity Logs, custody context, FOIL requests, and the difference between a recent arrest and a current jail stay.
  • The Most Wanted guide explains the local warrant-check path, including why a court or Sheriff contact is needed when no public county warrant search is available.
  • Crime News & Mugshots separates official releases from selective news coverage and makes clear that a news item is not proof of guilt or present custody.
  • City guides for Ithaca, the Town of Ithaca, and Dryden identify the agencies and records routes that apply to each area.
  • The home guide also identifies the county FOIL route for a specific booking or arrest record and the statewide DOCCS lookup for eligible state-prison custody searches.

What This Site Cannot Do

Tompkins County Busted Mugshots is privately operated. It is not part of the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Tompkins County Jail, DOCCS, a court, or any local, state, or federal government agency.

  • We cannot release, hold, transfer, or confirm the current custody of any person.
  • We cannot post bail, arrange a visit, send money, or complete a government request for a reader.
  • We cannot offer legal advice or interpret a person’s case.
  • We cannot promise that a phone number, fee, address, published release, or external resource remains current.

Only the responsible Sheriff, corrections, court, or records office can provide an official custody, charge, release, or record response. A booking entry is an accusation, and each person is presumed innocent unless proved guilty in court.
